Haldane UK has added its unique finishing touch to the transformation of a luxury residential property, which was led by the multi-award-winning, London and Prague-based Interior Architecture and Interior Design studio misch_MISCH.
One of the highlights of the stunning three-storey mews in Battersea is the feature helical staircase. Haldane UK was responsible for bringing the creative process to life by manufacturing and installing a continuous 70 x 40 elliptical handrail in Sapele, which was to be French polished to achieve a piano black finish in keeping with the interior design.
The handrail incorporated over 9 linear metres of bespoke continuous handrail, which required millimetre accuracy to sit perfectly on the slender black metal spindles.
The staircase also features sections of flat, curved handrail and straight handrail, as well as 180 degree wreathed bends to achieve the flawless continuous finish.

Haldane UK has manufactured and supplied these stunning elliptical oak handrails to one of the UK’s leading bespoke staircase specialists, Flair Stairs.
The project saw Haldane carry out a full 3D digital survey of the two-storey bespoke staircase featuring decorative metal balustrades and timber treads manufactured and installed by the Flair Stairs team.
With the digital model providing pinpoint accuracy right down to the weld marks on the balustrade, Haldane UK was able to manufacture the perfect-fit timber handrails, ready for the Flair Stairs team to install onsite to achieve a flawless finish.
The staircase features a stunning subtle curve to give a beautiful bespoke shape through the two storeys before finishing with a luxurious, wreathed volute.
To ensure the handrail flows effortlessly down the stair, Haldane designed, programmed and manufactured the complex transitions and bends, which were dry-jointed where possible to assist with the onsite installation.
The end result is this stunning feature staircase that would provide the wow-factor to any luxury property.

Haldane UK has enabled one of the UK’s leading architectural joinery firms to deliver a major joinery package for a prestigious hospital project in London.
With over 270 linear metres of continuous timber handrails to manufacture and additional joinery works within the package, the company called upon Haldane UK to outsource the CNC machining of the handrail.
Haldane UK boasts the largest precision CNC timber machining capacity in the UK and works in partnership with a number of joinery and staircase companies to enable them to meet challenging projects, deadlines and complex components.
The project saw 270 linear metres of straight timber handrails with a 50mm diameter and some 165 turns and transition components.
The machined timber handrails and associated components were supplied fully dry jointed, labelled and clear installation drawings to enable the customers’ joinery teams to install on site.

Haldane UK has shown why it is the marketing leader for luxury timber handrails with a masterclass in handrail installation by installing and polishing over 400 linear metres in just four days.
Working with a leading metalworker on a major college project in London, Haldane UK, was presented with an incredibly challenging deadline for machining and installing the 50mm diameter handrails in European Oak to 5 staircases and four large atrium areas.
However, with over 30 years of experience and successfully completed over 10,000 handrail installation projects, Haldane UK were able to develop a rapid install programme to meet the deadlines.
After carrying out full 3D scanning of the installed glass balustrade, Haldane was able to manufacture, dry joint and pre-finish the European Oak handrail off-site to minimise the installation period.
And thanks to Haldane being one of the few handrail manufacturers with their own in-house teams of highly experienced Handrail Installers, the project was finished in just four days onsite.

Haldane UK has showcased its market-leading expertise in manufacturing bespoke handrail components to transform a staircase with its latest project, which features a stunning timber handrail drop end to add the wow factor.
The supply-only project saw Haldane UK work closely with one of Scotland’s leading specialist joinery companies, who had manufactured the staircase and balustrades but were looking for absolute precision when it came to the timber handrail.
The client was looking to avoid using a newel post at the foot of the stair and had designed an alternative approach where the handrail turns slightly and then drops to the floor, creating a real feature to the straight flight of stairs.
Haldane used its 5-axis CNC expertise to machine the elliptical handrail, which flows perfectly through the landing and down the staircase with a wreath drop end to finish.
The European Oak handrail was pre-drilled by Haldane UK to accommodate 32mm diameter spindles and dry jointed prior to despatch to make the installation as quick and as simple as possible.
Haldane UK was also asked to manufacture and supply the complementary base rail with pre-drilled holes along with the corresponding 90-degree flat bends.
Haldane UK has added its touch of luxury to a superb refurbishment project for a luxury project in Carnoustie by manufacturing and supplying a replacement timber handrail for the entrance hall.
Working closely with the interior designer and the onsite joiner, Haldane UK carried out a detailed site survey of the existing metal balustrade.
This provides a high resolution 3D digital representation, enabling the Haldane UK design team to understand all the slight imperfections that come with historic balustrades.
With their expertise in CNC timber machining, Haldane UK ensured the finished handrail “smoothed” any small bumps, lumps and blemishes in the metalwork for an absolutely flawless finish.
The handrails, comprising of the straight rail, spiraling transitions and wreathed volutes were manufactured in Sapele and dry jointed in the Haldane UK factory before being supplied to the onsite joiner for installation.
These were then completed perfectly with a Farrow and Ball finish to create the stunning look of luxury.

The whole process was very straightforward and easy, from the initial enquiry to arranging for the surveyor to come out and measure, and the new bespoke handrail arrived on site a few weeks later.

Haldane UK has manufactured and installed almost 150 linear metres of its stunning Sapele handrails in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall for the stunning spiral staircase to the rear of the historic building.
Working in conjunction with Edwards Engineering who were the architectural metalworkers on the project, Haldane used its advanced digitising technology to measure and plot the exact flow of the core rail that the timber handrail would sit on.
And demonstrating that even a simple 45mm diameter can look stunning, Haldane precision manufactured the spiral and curved handrail to the rear staircase and its expert installation teams ensured a perfect finish that is worthy of a building with such a reputation.
Such was the quality of the works that Haldane was then appointed to manufacture and install the timber handrails and transition components to the entrance area.

Timber Handrail Manufacturer, Haldane UK has completed a major joinery package for a high end residential project in central London which saw the transformation of an Art Deco hotel into 48 luxury apartments over 8 storeys.
Haldane manufactured and installed over 85 linear metres of 110mm x 83mm bespoke timber handrails in American Black Walnut which was rebated to sit atop a double skin frosted glass balustrade.
Haldane also manufactured an American Black Walnut handrail with a large profile measuring 110mm high x 310mm wide to feature a leaning rail allowing plants and foliage to be adorned in the atrium area.
This large section of handrail would have presented most manufacturers with a major challenge, however, Haldane UK was able to demonstrate the expertise and experience which has made them the UK’s market leader for luxury timber handrails.
The curved and sweeping handrails were a key feature of the link bridges spanning the main atrium area which also incorporated a stunning louvre system to maximise the natural light in the building, again manufactured from American Black Walnut.
Haldane UK also carried out the French Polishing to the bespoke timber handrails to ensure the perfect finish required for a high-end property development.
In addition to the handrails, Haldane also manufactured and supplied timber decking to the balcony and all communal areas. Such was the quality of the works, Haldane was also asked to install the decking to 12 of the most prestigious apartments.

Haldane UK has played a key part in the delivering this stunning feature helical stair by manufacturing and installing these American Black Walnut handrails to sit atop curved glass balustrades.
The project was carried out in conjunction with Clifford Chapman who were the specialist staircase contractor and completed the structural steelwork and glass balustrading.
The continuous handrail spirals up to the main atrium area which itself is a stunning feature of the double height entrance area of the luxury home in England.
Haldane carried out a full digital survey of the balustrade before manufacturing the 80mm x 50mm elliptical handrail together with the timber capping.
