Victorian Handrail and Stair Parts

Haldane UK has recreated an entire Victorian handrail and balustrade for a client who was extending an Aberdeen hotel and was looking to match the existing staircase.

The bespoke timber machining specialist has developed a reputation as a timber restoration specialist with a portfolio of historic properties, including the refurbishment of Windsor Castle, where it manufactured layered balustrade in the Prayer Room and latticework in the Great Hall.

Working from photographs of the existing components and architects drawings of the new staircase layout, Haldane produced 3D drawings of each component and the exact representation of the Victorian handrail profile before beginning the manufacturing process.

Haldane used a combination of their 5 axis CNC machining expertise, woodturning and moulding solutions to create the ornate 120mm square newel posts as per the existing design, including the unique ball décor top.

Haldane UK used their bespoke woodturning expertise to recreate the 55mm spindles which were turned to match the newel posts

The final Victorian handrail was designed to match the existing handrail with a 92mm x 62mm profile with a 55mm rebate to accommodate the spindles.

Turned Wooden Table Legs

Haldane UK has demonstrated the range of their timber machining skills by manufacturing 8  turned wooden table legs for a specialist joinery company which was making a table as part of a refurbishment contract.

CNC Timber Machining of Letter Blocks

Haldane UK has manufactured 480 individual panels each with a letter in a different font for The Word, the North East Centre for the Written Word in South Shields.

Each panel measured 270mm squared and 30mm in depth and was manufactured in American White Oak with Haldane UK’s precision CNC expertise.

Haldane were supplied with sketches of lowercase and uppercase letters and were asked to match to existing fonts.

The project also featured 30 panels which featured a combination of 3 letters.

The finished panels will create a stunning wall feature in the state of the art centre which is the first phase of the £100m regeneration of South Shields town centre.
