Fife based Haldane UK is perfectly positioned to deliver any Edinburgh woodturning requirements with a combination of traditional skills and bespoke woodturning equipment, complemented by their state of the art 5 axis CNC timber machining technology.

Our expertise in woodturning was demonstrated perfectly with part of the refurbishment work on Edinburgh’s iconic North Bridge.

The bridge originally featured 68 wooden turnings, which had rotted and needed to be replaced.

The architectural joinery company involved in the bridge refurbishment recognised the complexity of the project and asked Haldane UK to take responsibility for the manufacture and supply of the wooden turnings.

Haldane were given one of the existing turnings, which had been removed from the bridge, and were asked to recreate it. As the turning would be exposed to the elements on the external bridge, Haldane used Iroko wood as it is one of the most durable timbers, and does not need treatment with oil and varnish to withstand adverse weather conditions.

Using the original turning as a guide, Haldane were able to recreate the wooden turnings, which will help restore the bridge to its original appearance.

This is just one example of how architectural joinery companies call upon the timber machining expertise of Haldane. Thanks to Haldane’s wood turning, Edinburgh residents are now able to enjoy an iconic bridge as it is restored back to its former glory.
