Victorian Newel PostHaldane UK has recreated an entire Victorian handrail and balustrade for a client who was extending an Aberdeen hotel and was looking to match the existing staircase.

The bespoke timber machining specialist has developed a reputation as a timber restoration specialist with a portfolio of historic properties, including the refurbishment of Windsor Castle, where it manufactured layered balustrade in the Prayer Room and latticework in the Great Hall.

Working from photographs of the existing components and architects drawings of the new staircase layout, Haldane produced 3D drawings of each component and the exact representation of the Victorian handrail profile before beginning the manufacturing process.

Haldane used a combination of their 5 axis CNC machining expertise, woodturning and moulding solutions to create the ornate 120mm square newel posts as per the existing design, including the unique ball d├ęcor top.

Haldane UK used their bespoke woodturning expertise to recreate the 55mm spindles which were turned to match the newel posts

The final Victorian handrail was designed to match the existing handrail with a 92mm x 62mm profile with a 55mm rebate to accommodate the spindles.
