Bespoke Walnut Staircase for Luxury Property

Haldane UK has manufactured, supplied and installed this bespoke three-storey walnut staircase to create a stunning reception area in a luxury property in England.

Working directly with the owner of the property and liaising with their architect, Haldane UK brought the plans to life with a combination of walnut treads and handrails, tulip wood risers and stringers painted white, and a contemporary square mild steel balustrade finished in black.

The open space in the double-height entrance hall was accentuated with the fully polished open treads that turned through 360 degrees and finished perfectly with a double bull nose tread.

The elliptical walnut handrail sat atop the fully continuous core rail to provide a flawless finish with various twists, transitions and turns, culminating in wreathed volutes at the entrance to the staircase.

The client was delighted with the project, commenting, “we are both delighted with your work and everyone who visits the house loves it too.”

Replacement Handrail for Scottish Refurbishment Project

Haldane UK has added its touch of luxury to a superb refurbishment project for a luxury project in Carnoustie by manufacturing and supplying a replacement timber handrail for the entrance hall.

Working closely with the interior designer and the onsite joiner, Haldane UK carried out a detailed site survey of the existing metal balustrade.

This provides a high resolution 3D digital representation, enabling the Haldane UK design team to understand all the slight imperfections that come with historic balustrades.

With their expertise in CNC timber machining, Haldane UK ensured the finished handrail “smoothed” any small bumps, lumps and blemishes in the metalwork for an absolutely flawless finish.

The handrails, comprising of the straight rail, spiraling transitions and wreathed volutes were manufactured in Sapele and dry jointed in the Haldane UK factory before being supplied to the onsite joiner for installation.

These were then completed perfectly with a Farrow and Ball finish to create the stunning look of luxury.

Commenting on the project, the interior designer, Caroline Windsor on Windsor 29, commented, “Haldane was very prompt and professional. The whole process was very straightforward and easy, from the initial enquiry to arranging for the surveyor to come out and measure, and the new bespoke handrail arrived on site a few weeks later.

It was installed easily, fitting perfectly and transformed the old staircase to look better than ever before. I am delighted with the look and quality of the end result and would not hesitate to use you again on any future projects.”

Haldane Delivers A Timber Machining Masterclass For London’s Most Exclusive Gym

Haldane UK has once again demonstrated its luxury timber machining expertise by delivering one of the most complex staircase cladding projects in its 75-year history for Equinox Gym in Bishopsgate, London.

Working in conjunction with Cre8 Joinery Solutions, one of the UK’s leading specialist joinery companies, Haldane UK were asked to carry out the timber cladding and bespoke handrail for the three-storey feature staircase.

The major challenge was the cladding of the metal balustrade, which uses finned sections of stainless steel that gradually change in angle from zero to ninety degrees.

This gives the impression of the balustrade opening and closing as you move up and down the stair.

While the cladding of the 850 finned sections was relatively straight forward, the change in the finned balustrade’s direction meant the base rail had to be designed and machined with a split section to fit together perfectly on-site and create a seamless finish.

This required all of Haldane’s expertise, from the precision 3D laser scanning from our inhouse survey team to the design expertise to create the optimum timber solution and components required.

Once the design proposal was approved, Haldane UK’s market leading accuracy and precision in timber machining were demonstrated to its full potential.

Haldane was also responsible for manufacturing and installed over 120 linear metres of bespoke timber handrail capping to finish the three-story feature staircase to perfection as well as the base capping to the underside of the stair.

With a chunky 115mm x 70mm profile, the Haldane UK’s inhouse team carried out the full 3D survey of the metal balustrade to ensure its handrail fitted perfectly onto the metalwork and the various ramps, bends and horizontal curved handrail section flowed flawlessly.

Faced with an extremely tight deadline, Haldane UK mobilised three of its inhouse installation teams to work round the clock 7 days per week to ensure the project was expertly installed on time and on budget – much to the delight of a very happy client who marvelled at the quality and commitment of our onsite teams.

Haldane UK’s extensive manufacturing capacity and the unique position of having all aspects of their solution carried out inhouse, including their own dedicated team of surveyors and installers, ensured the project was completed on time, despite the challenging deadlines.

Staircase Refurbishment Devon

Haldane UK has completed the refurbishment of a 2 storey staircase in a luxury home in Devon, removing the existing post to post stair and replacing it with a fully continuous Sapele handrail, slimline timber spindles and volute newels.

The client had been looking to change his existing traditional staircase with a contemporary design that would open up the area and allow more natural light from the feature window.

The large newel posts and spindles were replaced with tapered 35mm spindles with only two 50mm volute newels providing the structural support to the handrail at the bottom of the staircase.

The continuous handrail featuring a 70 x 50mm handrail profile flows perfectly up the tight turning staircase using a combination of 180 degree raking to raking wreaths and 90 degree raking to horizontal wreaths.

Haldane also created a stunning feature to the base of the staircase, replacing the existing bullnose tread with a new scrolled bullnose tread to mirror the shape and turn of the wreath volutes.
